Nama Dhofar Services Company SAOC is a closed joint stock company incorporated on 25 February 2001 pursuant to the Commercial Companies Law. The Company used to provide generation, transmission, distribution and supply business in Dhofar Governorate and regulated by the provisions of the Law for the Regulation and Privatization of the Electricity Related Water Sector promulgated by Royal Decree 78/2004.
As part of the restructuring process of the power sector in the Dhofar Governorate, on 1 January 2014, the transmission business of the company was transferred to Oman Electricity Transmission Company SAOC (OETC). The company continues undertaking distribution and supply business in the Dhofar Governorate.
Under Royal Decree No 131/2020 promulgated on 9 December 2020, Nama Dhofar Services Company SAOC was mandated with the task of undertaking the activities of water and wastewater in the Dhofar Governorate. As per Royal Decree No 131/2020, the assets, rights, obligations, records and employees of the Directorate General of Water at the Office of the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar and those of Salalah Sanitary Drainage Services Company SAOC were transferred to Nama Dhofar Services Company SAOC for purposes of undertaking water and wastewater activities.
The water and wastewater activities undertaken by the company are regulated by the Authority for Public Services Regulation.
Company ownership
Nama Dhofar Services Company SAOC is a subsidiary of the Electricity Holding Company SAOC since July 19, 2009. The Electricity Holding Company SAOC currently owns 98.74% stake in Nama Dhofar Services Company SAOC, and 99.99% of the government’s shares in nine other subsidiary companies operating in the electricity and water and wastewater sector.
